As those who work in urban ministry know “For most in urban ministry, the idea of attending Bible college or seminary is virtually impossible. It is too expensive, offered far from their homes, and often does not relate to urban life and ministry. They cannot leave their jobs or their churches to give four years for ministry training.”
Many urban church leaders, both clergy and laity, work full time jobs while devoting themselves to the ministry of the local church. An educational solution is needed that is accessible, affordable and applicableto their life situation and ministry needs.
The Grow Center and The Urban Ministry Institue (TUMI) have partnered to develop certificate programs for churches. These programs can be offered at a church at an affordable cost. They are seminary level in academic quality but are not offered for seminary credits. An individual can earn either certification by completing at least 10 of the 16 modules in each program. Both programs include four main components: Biblical Studies, Theology and Ethics, Christian Ministry, and Urban mission.
